Brain Food
I knew it was time for a change whenever I started feeling bummed all the time... for no good reason whatsoever. It's not that my husband and I are unhealthy, we have just developed a more senditary lifestyle over the years. I guess we've gotten so comfortable with each other, that at some point we made an subconscience decision to sit on the couch of life for eternity! This is a no, no. Not only do I feel 100% drained of energy, I feel 100% unmotivated. Now, I've been blaming this on one thing for the past two, almost two and a half years. That thing would be our home, which has been under construction since the day we bought it. It's a huge weight on my shoulders that I feel completely helpless in lifting off. It's half way done here and there, but the mess in the house is causing me anxiety. Oh, I should mention that I'm totally OCD. That might help to illustrate my relentless panicing.
Anyhow... that's my intro. I'll introduce more of myself throughtout my posts. But, it's a good start. So, you should have that I'm married. We live in a house that is "under construction". And I'm totally high strung! We also have two cats and a dog. They don't help keep the house clean by any means!
Back to the original intention of this post... BRAIN FOOD! So, I thought... Maybe it's in my brain. I mean it has to be, right? The brain controls everything... I think... Anyway. Maybe if I eat powerful brain foods, I'll get more energy and be able to muster up the courage to tackle these chores and overcome my attitude problem!
Key Things in Research (but, don't take my word for it... go Google it yourself!!)
Your brain uses gluclose to get it's fuel. You can get gluclose from carbs. Don't cut the carbs 100%. Just cut them down, so they are used for "good" bodily functions (such as brain function) and not sitting around plumping up your tummy (or wherever else they accumulate). 25 grams (the amount in a banana) is the optimum amount of gluclose for your brain activity... something to think about. Also, eat things that are low on the glycemic index, so your body breaks the glucose down more slowly, giving you a more steady release of these molecules. Opt for carrot sticks instead of pretzel sticks, for example.
1. Wild Salmon. Not just for the brain. It's practically one of the healthiest foods to eat. At first I didn't like this fish at all, unless it was smoked and in sushi. But, my husband persistently fed it to me week after week and I came to find it very versatile and particurlarly tasty! If you don't like it one way, try making it a couple other ways... You're sure to find a way to cook it up "you" style!
2. Cacao Beans... no, not pure chocolate. Sorry! Whole, unprocessed beans. Maybe hard to come by, but don't pass up the chance to try 'em! You can try high percentage (usually 75% or more) DARK chocolate bars.
3. Matcha. Simply-put, stoned-ground green tea powder. Make yourself a powerful cup of green tea each day and you'll be well on your way to a healthier, younger looking you!
4. Blueberries and blackberries. Not only are they super cute and tasty... They are superfoods. No, not super food. They are a superfood. BRAIN POWER :-)
